5 Important Books to Create Your Best Success on Every Level

ID-10016159Attention, book lovers – and CEOs – and artists – and entrepreneurs….  Here are five books I absolutely think you should read, and why.  Yes, some of them have been out a while, but if you haven’t read them, give yourself an early birthday gift and order all five.  (Then share them with someone you mentor.  Remember, trusted advisors don’t just give advice and make powerful connections, they share the good stuff out there that inspires change and action.)

1. Leaders Eat Last, by Simon Sinek

If you’ve ever dreamed of more meaning and fulfillment in your work, or if you’ve ever wondered how to inspire others to rally around your cause, this book is absolutely necessary for you. After taking the world by storm with his captivating message about purpose in his book, “Start With Why,” Simon Sinek has turned his attention to the other critical question: How. What does it take for leaders to transform paranoia and cynicism into safety and trust? Is a common enemy necessary for true collaboration and cooperation?  Sinek illustrates his ideas with fascinating true stories from a wide range of examples, from the military to manufacturing, from government to investment banking.

2. Every Monday Matters: 52 Ways to Make a Difference, by Matt Emerzian and Kelly Bozza

How often have you had a project or a plan and a year later, it’s still there, on the shelf, untouched?  Finding the motivation to create the most meaningful things, and avoid the to-do list is not easy.  If you need a little help seeing the promise and inspiration of a Monday morning, this book will help you get outside your normal routine and glimpse the world around you in a new light.  Authors Matthew Emerzian and Kelly Bozza remake Monday from “the end of the weekend” into something poignant, meaningful and inspiring by taking 52 Mondays and matching them with 52 creative and practical activities that make a difference — one for each Monday of the year. It’s the perfect way to have a positive impact, get others involved, and be a positive influence in your life and the lives of others.

3. The Untethered Soul: The Journey Beyond Yourself, by Michael Singer

This is truly one of the most profound books I’ve read in a long time (and I’ve read many) on personal growth and transformation. Anyone interested in becoming your best self must invest in this book! By tapping into traditions of meditation and mindfulness, author and spiritual teacher Michael Singer shows how the development of consciousness can enable us all to dwell in the present moment and let go of painful thoughts and memories that keep us from achieving happiness and self-realization. After all, a life well lived is a life we recognize, moment by moment.

4. Small Changes, Big Results: A Wellness Plan for a Healthy Balanced Life, by Ellie Krieger

I’ve tried to recommend five books that touch every aspect of our lives, and let’s face it, probably 80-90% of us could use a wellness plan – without that, the roadblocks to doing great work can be profound.  This book is a great investment for anyone trying to create healthy habits – it provides an easy-to-start, simple-to-maintain, scientifically sound, 12-week program of small steps -just three each week – such as starting a food journal, choosing healthy fats and proteins, and replacing refined grains with whole grains. Krieger also tells you what technology to use for tracking your fitness progress and finding others who share your interests so staying fit will be second nature.

5. Creativity, Inc: Overcoming the Unseen Forces that Stand in the Way of True Inspiration, by Ed Catmull

Do you want to give full expression to the best that lies within you? To the rescue comes this incisive book by Ed Catmull (co-founder with Steve Jobs and John Lasseter of Pixar Animation Studios) – an illuminating discussion of creativity in business that will be a welcome addition to your library – and your life. This is not just a book for managers; it is a must-read manual for anyone who strives for originality.

It is also the first-ever, all-access trip into the nerve center of Pixar Animation—into the meetings, postmortems, and “Braintrust” sessions where some of the most successful films in history are made. It is an invaluable discussion of how to build a creative culture – but it is also, as Pixar co-founder and President Ed Catmull writes, “An expression of the ideas that I believe make the best in us possible.”

A Hard Day’s Night for Digital Legacy – The Lost Beatles Recordings

Screen Shot 2014-07-14 at 3.50.14 PM

Great work will never die in today’s ever expanding online digital world. According to the IDC “The digital universe is growing 40% a year into the next decade. By 2020 it will contain nearly as many digital hits as there are stars in the universe.” In fact, according to Science Daily, 90% of all the world’s data has been written in the past 2 years. Wow. That is an incredibly daunting idea. Literally 90% of the information that is readily accessible to the world today was not available only 2 years ago.

While imagining the sheer magnitude of all this data is overwhelming, studying this information on a more local, individual level is far easier to wrap your head around.

Let’s take a look at the Beatles first Big Screen appearance in the film, A Hard Day’s Night, for example. In examining the 50th anniversary restoration process for the film, technicians needed to compensate for the original recordings (which had been lost) of what is now widely considered the most inspirational musical group ever. Imagine that, the original recordings were lost.

An incredibly foreign idea today in a day and age that with one quick internet search can find you thousands of Kids Pop covers of every song ever done. So how were these recordings lost in history? Well, despite Beatlemania, apparently some doubt still existed as to whether or not The Beatles would make a serious lasting impact; and who wants to track down and organize a possible “one hit wonders” second and third album? I’m 1960, the answer was no one; apparently not even for the Beatles. Today, this is routinely done for even small artists. It may have been a Hard Day’s Night to make a lasting footprint back then, but now, there’s almost no one left without an online footprint. The solid win for all of us is that great work never dies in today’s online digital world, and as a result, we are all, always building a digital legacy for lifetimes to come.

Let’s look at the Lennon legacy. Everyone is probably aware of John’s journey from Liverpool, his work with the Beatles, his marriage with Yoko Ono and his untimely death. But what about his children? Julian, John’s eldest son, has expanded his own musical career, fighting through adversity often faced by platinum artists children, attempting to get out of the shadow of their musical parents. (Luckily for humanity, in addition to his music, Julian has made great strides in his White Feather Foundation, raising funds for a more sustainable future for the planet.) And Sean, John’s youngest son is touring with bands like the Flaming Lips and Tame Impala while releasing his own albums and unique sound.

Our digital footprints go beyond music, of course, Paul McCartney’s daughter Stella need only be Googled to find pages and pages of images of her enormous impact on fashion. And of course, the remaining Beatles themselves continue to make great music and build their legacy, both online and off.

So while the early pieces of Beatles history have been lost, their legacy will not be forgotten and in fact, continues to grow and grow. Living on in their new accomplishments, their children, their fans, and in an online database for everyone to access, so no one will forget.

Annual Allen & Company Sun Valley Conference

Every year since 1983, government officials, media moguls, journalists and technology buffs gather in Sun Valley for the Allen & Company Conference. This year was no difference, boasting names such as Zuckerberg, Buffett, Cook, Gates, Murdoch and Weinstein.

“Allen & Company is a private investment firm formed in 1922, located in New York and London. Allen & Company has advised, helped found and/or invested in numerous companies including BET, InterActiveCorp, Oxygen Media, Discovery Communications, News Corporation, the Coca-Cola Corporation and Google.”

The Allen & Company conference mixes thought-provoking presentations and a laid back mingling for industry leaders to foster relationships. CNBC dubbed the conference the “summer camp for moguls.”

The conference isn’t only fun for moguls though; local businesses thrive from the influx of people the conference brings each year. Sun Valley is known to attract many celebrities, but the Allen & Company Conference brings them in hundreds.

According to an article on MagicValley.com, the highlight of the afternoon was Tim Cook’s presence. Journalists spotted the Apple CEO buying a drink from a vending machine.

Meg Mazzocchi, a local working at The Toy Store was quoted in the MagicValley.com article saying, “You don’t ogle and you don’t intrude and you don’t ask for autographs,” she said. “Just let them enjoy their vacation. I think that’s why Sun Valley is popular.“

Kick-Finishing: The Next Big Thing in Promotion – from Linkedin Influencers

…. It’s no surprise that artists and entrepreneurs alike frequently turn to crowdfunding — it works.

Crowdfunding campaigns raised more than $60,000 every hour in March. That’s a huge network recognizing and supporting individual projects and careers.

But it’s not just the initiation stage of a project that can benefit from a crowdfunding network. By using crowdfunding to spread the word after you’ve completed your project, you can turn your fans and partners into a massive marketing team and drastically increase the reach of your brand. This tactic is called kick-finishing, and it’s exactly what my musician friend Brent Bourgeois is doing with his new album.

Brent Bourgeois and the Origins of Kick-Finishing

Brent is a rock musician based in the San Francisco Bay Area with an extensive career in performing, songwriting, and producing. In the ’80s, he was a founding member of a fantastic band called Bourgeois Tagg and has since collaborated with numerous other talented artists.

The Next Big Thing: Apple WWDC

It’s no surprise to see Apple race on, barely missing a beat since Steve’s passing – leading global innovation as it has this new millennium.

In just a few hours the next Apple WWDC (Apple WorldWide Developers Conference) will take place. A stage that has announced true global game changers, like the iPhone and the iPad.

In the end, right now it’s still about the App store.  With 600,000 downloadable games, magazines and productivity tools, Apple is the application leader.  But the others are not far behind. As quoted in Bloomberg earlier today, “The success of Apple’s App Store has helped create an economy for downloading mobile applications that will reach $58 billion in sales in 2014.”

Surely, Apple will continue App dominance – and its track record of suspense and big announcements at WWDC. Will we see the next iPhone? News on OSX Mountain Mountain Lion?A new social platform? The next “Big Thing” that none of us have even contemplated before?  It’s hard not to wonder where Apple goes from here, without Steve Jobs at the helm… but we’ll find out in just a few short hours.

This is, in fact, a question I ask over and over in my upcoming eBook on Apple, The Magic and Moxie of Apple – An Insider’s View.

“… So where does Apple – a company that started out as two guys making and selling circuit boards out of their garage, which transformed into one of the biggest international technology companies in the world – go from here? Following the loss of Steve, that question seems challenging to answer. As we know all too well, Apple has seen itself rise and fall from grace before and reinvent itself more than once, and the company is counting on the fact that it’s cemented its place at the top so profoundly that nothing will stop it from continuing to grow. Continually releasing new products (and upgrading the old) may do this, but fundamentally, what direction does it take next? The iPhone, iPad, and iPod have already seen several generations of upgrades. What groundbreaking innovations will propel Apple in the same way that the iPod, iPhone, MacBook Air and iPad did? The answer to that question isn’t what new product will they come out with, but rather who will be dream it up without Steve? … ”

Like many of you, I’m eagerly awaiting iOS 6 and Mountain Lion – which brings some of the most popular features found on other Apple products to the MAC, such asGameCenter, notes, etc. A personal favorite is that Mountain Lion will send messages to anyone on an Apple product – so you’ll be able to begin a message on your MAC and pick it back up on your iPhone or iPad later on. We’ll see today what else Apple has in store for us – the world of believers, creators and brand advocates.

And although the race continues without Steve to lead the pack – only his company to carry on the dream – it will not be easy to watch WWDC without him taking the stage.

Digital at it’s Best: Live From Daryl’s House

Today’s world is fickle, and one of my favorite examples of success during this digital revolution and how digital is bringing new audiences to the best performers of our time is Live From Daryl’s House, started by Daryl Hall in late 2007.  This is music discovery at its best, with Hall taking a simple idea and turning it into web gold. Hall recently said of the show, “I had this idea of playing with my friends and putting it up on the Internet.”  What could be easier, right? Certainly the response has been huge.

In fact, the show has become almost iconic, with applause coming in from a long list of leading names in the industry, including Rolling Stone, SPIN, Daily Variety, CNN, BBC, Yahoo! Music and influential (and hyper-critical) blogger Bob Lefsetz.  This is exactly what veteran artists need to be creating in order to reinvent in the digital age and gain new audiences (and influence) through vibrant collaborations with both established leaders in music and new performers.

Daryl Hall has had a rich and varied career, working with virtually all of the great musicians of modern popular music, as well as entering into new relationships with the best of the latest generation of artists. So far, episodes have featured superstars like Smokey Robinson, Rob Thomas (of Matchbox 20), Robby Krieger and Ray Manzarek (The Doors’), Train, Nick Lowe, K.T. Tunstall, Gym Class Heroes’ Travis McCoy, Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump, and soul legends The Blind Boys of Alabama – as well as with newcomers such as Nikki Jean, Grace Potter & the Nocturnals, Canadian techno-rockers Chromeo, Bay Area singer/songwriter Matt Nathanson, and highly touted tunesmith Diane Birch.

He’s also featured my own close personal friend, Todd Rundgren, several times, most recently at Rundgren’s home in Kauai, Hawaii, where they performed a rousing 7-song set, including an amazing cover of the Delfonics’ 1970 hit, “Didn’t I Blow Your Mind This Time.”

Daryl Hall and Todd Rundgren have known one another since their early days inPhiladelphia, and the gig in Hawaii included an old-fashioned traditional Luau Show, burying a pig in the dirt, serving up some poi, hula dancers and a special performance with local musicians of “Bang on the Drum.” Said Rundgren, “It’s always great when friends come all the way out here to visit, but it’s even better when they come to play.”

Hall’s latest collaboration has been with up-and-coming artist Allen Stone, a virtual look-alike for Daryl himself (in both image and musical philosophy).  In fact, that collaboration went so well that Stone is now touring and working with Hall and Oates.

Hall has had an illustrious career, with six #1 singles with collaborator John Oates, including “Rich Girl” (also #1 R&B), “Kiss on My List,” “Private Eyes,” “I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do) (also #1 R&B), “Maneater” and “Out of Touch” from their six consecutive multi-platinum albums—’76’s Bigger Than Both of Us, ’80’sVoices, ’81’s Private Eyes, ‘82’s H2O, ‘83’s Rock N Soul, Part I and ‘84’s Big Bam Boom. The era would also produce an additional 5 Top 10 singles, “Sara Smile,” “One on One,” “You Make My Dreams,” “Say It Isn’t So” and “Method of Modern Love.”

Live from Daryl’s House is being shown weekly in over 80% of U.S. homes in the nation’s top 200 media markets, as well as all of the top 10, including New York, L.A., Chicago, Dallas and Houston. The show also recently won the 2010 WEBBY Award in the Variety Category.

Daryl’s longtime manager, Jonathan Wolfson, and I are working on getting Daryl on my popular weekly digital radio show, All Access Radio.  I’ll keep everyone posted when we finally get a date set. You can sign up for his Newsletter at https://www.livefromdarylshouse.com/emupdates.html

A Discussion with Jim Griffin and Bill Patry, the Father of Copyright at Google

(Click Image to See the Entire Interview)

Recently, at DMW‘s Digital Music East, industry leader Jim Griffin sat down with Bill Patry of Google and valiantly sought to stake out a solution to tangled web that is copyright. What we got, however, was a rich insight to what makes Bill Patry click and how he became known for his $1500 – 6,500 page treatise on copyright law.  Known as the Father (or wicked stepfather) of Copyright, depending on where you fall on the issue, Bill Patry was surprisingly vulnerable and honest throughout the interview. He described himself as a “vegetarian, left-wing Jewish guy,” and one could almost think he was nothing but simple attorney, with a passionate love for music, who tripped and fell into a law degree.

Being first and foremost always a journalist, Jim Griffin came to this fireside chat with Patry with his foundation firmly in place, having interviewed many of Patry’s colleagues (and adversaries) over the years. Patry led off assuring Jim, and the crowd of industry heads who filled the auditorium, that he’s only one voice in a team at Google who are focused on the copyright dilemma.

The discussion started off with Patry sharing his start as a music major in college who went on to bring that love for music into his views as a young attorney entering the copyright arena. He added that his hope was, and is, always to protect the rights of all parties in music – from creation to production to distribution.

This love for music showed time and time again through the interview, as Patry highlighted snapshots of his life and career by quoting obscure songs (for instance, “Drop Kick Me Jesus,” which poetically showcased his time in Texas). As an aside, to evidence what an offbeat guy Patry is, he collects the mouthpieces of famous clarinet players.

He went on to discuss his base clarinet and his fierce loyalty to obscure base clarinetists, like Squonk. He spoke eloquently about the struggles of passionate, obscure musicians (like clarinetists) who will simply never be signed. He asked the crowd, rhetorically, “How do they make a living?”

Jim Griffin, who is arguably one of the most learned and nicest people in the entire industry, led the conversation back to Patry’s early days in law, asking how a music major ends up running copyright at one of the largest companies in the world.  Patry shared that he won an ASCAP contest writing about copyright (partly because he was the only one in that particular category). His paper, “Copyright and Community Property,” won the contest, and the Journal of Copyright Society published it later that year. Thus began the long, winding road to Google.

At the end of the interview, Jim Griffin smiled and asked, “So then what was the linchpin that brought you to Google?” Patry laughed in response, shrugging, “I was in private practice and sucked at it.”

While I wish they had covered more of where copyright is headed over the next decade, entering what will no doubt be Web 4.0, 5.0, etc., this was a chance to see more of the person who intends to solve a copyright issue that as of now, pits publishers, creators and consumers against one another at every turn.

Final thought, Jim Griffin’s quote from Ben Sheffner (of the MPAA), often an opponent to Patry in the copyright debate, is worth noting: “About Bill Patry: People on my side on today’s copyright debates often see our opponents as head-in-the-cloud cyber Utopians… Unfortunately for us, we can’t dismiss Bill Patry, one of our worthiest opponents, that easily… While we in the entertainment industry often bristle at his conclusions, we frequently consult his masterful treatise… we respect him and are glad to have his voice in the debate.”

Life and The Love We Make

Working at the crossroads of music and technology, and being a talent producer for a couple of decades now, I’ve had the opportunity to work with a long list of amazing artists. The most meaningful interactions are often the unscheduled, random conversations that just seem to happen randomly. Some of those occur behind-the-scenes at events like Pollstar, where I got to shoot the breeze with my childhood idol, Davy Jones – who spent that entire conversation asking about my work, my family and sharing his own human, fun-loving side. He was an amazing soul and is definitely missed by all of us, as colleagues, and by me, as a friend.

Sadly, Davey Jones wasn’t the only friend I lost recently.  The amazing Ronnie Montrose also left us after a long struggle with prostrate cancer.  Ronnie was the lead guitarist for the band Montrose, and worked with a long list of great artists, including the Neville Brothers,  Sammy Hagar, Herbie Hancock, Van Morrison, The Beau Brummels, and the legendary Boz Scaggs, among others.  Ronnie and I also met at the Pollstar Awards, where I booked him as a presenter. He was a great guy and we shared several powerful conversations about what he could do in the digital space and we left off looking forward to maybe working together.  Ronnie’s warmth and sincerity are definitely missed, and remembered.

Moments of remembrance seem to be all around me lately.  While I was in New Yorkfor Digital Music East a few weeks ago two colleagues and I visited the 9/11 Memorial – a tough morning for all of us. Afterward, we talked about the amazing love that followed that day, and I shared my experience with Paul McCartney at the Adopt-a-Minefield Concert (a cause supported mightily by the late Princess Diana).

I was privileged to share a personal moment with Sir Paul after he performed “God Only Knows” and “Let it Be” with Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys. Paul drove up himself in his black Mercedes before the event and we shared our experiences about many things, including his personal relationship with 9/11. I myself was headed to New York only a few days before 9/11, but cancelled the trip. Had I gone, I was scheduled to return on Flight 93 – the flight that crashed in a field in Pennsylvania.  A million times I have considered this close call with awe and gratitude, to say the least.  Paul shared his own amazing story with me.  He was on his way to London to celebrate his daughter Stella’s 30th birthday that very morning and was literally taxiing on the tarmac at JFK when the first plane hit the North Tower of the World Trade Centre, and when all air traffic was grounded, McCartney’s plane was ordered back to the gate.

Basically trapped in NY, Paul decided over the next few days to create a benefit concert, and the “Concert for New York City” was born. It was graced with a long list of stellar musicians (all personal friends of McCartney), including Elton John, David Bowie, Pete Townshend, Eric Clapton and Mick Jagger, among others. (An amazing documentary by Albert Maysles called The Love we Make followed McCartney around New York those few weeks before the concert, which happened only five weeks after the attacks.) One of the most notable moments in the film shows Paul standing on the stage at Madison Square Garden in an FDNY T-shirt. When he sang Yesterday in front of hundreds of firefighters and police officers, most of whom had all lost friends and relatives, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.

Some days, I know we’re all led to the tears when we lose someone we love or celebrate difficult anniversaries, but I think Paul McCartney was definitely right when he shared “I just thought we could help with the music.”

Music and Your Brand: Five Ways to Tune Your Demographic In With the Right Band

Attention is a scarce resource—and that means it’s a costly one. In a world of hundreds of competing voices, art and music have become a powerful way to bring a brand back into the spotlight. The perfect example? The “marriage” of Alicia Keys and Blackberry. Blackberry didn’t just bring Keys in as a spokesperson, either; it made her its creative director. That wasn’t just some made-up title to give the “Girl on Fire” credibility; Keys has brought in some stellar ideas to create user (and fan) engagement. For her first act, Keys shot videos in every location of her tour, and she invited local fans and residents of those locales to send their own photos to include in the video clips. Photos chosen went on Alicia Keys’ on-stage video projection. Now that is a huge win around user experience—one of the fastest ways to turn engagement into ROI. Make It Relevant Right now, consumer brands are marketing more and more with music and entertainment. In fact, it’s become so important that some major brands have started their own record labels—including Red Bull, Scion, Mountain Dew, and Converse. Why? Music is a powerful way to create a cultural connection and engage with an audience while drawing your product even closer to your demographic’s lifestyle. Being hip, cool, relevant, and present as a brand is important, but the more important issue can be the cost to your image if you resist popular trends. (Just one example: Levi’s missed the hip-hop boom, and it cost the company $1 billion in sales—in one year.) Tuning in isn’t just a smart way to connect with your audience; it can be vital to your brand’s survival. The New ‘A&R’ Brands are becoming a trusted source for breaking hip underground artists to the mainstream media. The iTunes team at Apple (my alma mater) chose specific, obscure artists to create buzz around the launch of iTunes. That curating practice was really a form of Artist and Repertoire (or A&R), which used to be the domain of a record company. An “A&R” role—which I once did for EMI Music prior to launching the music vertical at Apple—was responsible for cultivating new talent for a label. Now, brands are performing that role themselves. By partnering with artists who fit your audience, you can create the perfect exposure for your brand to the right people. Here are a few ways to start: Find the right sound. If you don’t know which artists may make sense for your brand, hire people who do, or spend time online and on social media networks researching what your audience is listening to. Just ask and explore; they’ll tell you which artists you’ll want to pursue further. Target your age group. Brands vying for the attention of younger audiences—especially those 13-25—must be tuned into the entertainment world, especially when tie-ins between brands and bands are core to success. By partnering with exactly the right artistic act, you’ll net far more attention—and credibility—with your target audience. Get in touch. Many brands are approaching artists directly. If the artist is signed, the label may be involved, but it’s best to start with the artist’s manager (if an established band) or the artist directly (when a rising indie artist). Go where your audience is. Music festivals create the perfect audience for a brand. You’ll place yourself in front of thousands of viewers and kindle a shared passion with your artists’ fans. There are lots of music festivals catering to diverse audiences; find your niche. Unify and balance. Merging the needs of artists, brands, and fans can create powerful results. When an artist has a song that ties into the theme of a brand campaign, it resonates with the audience and is doubly powerful. Behind the Music There’s nothing quite like a smart, well-executed match between a brand and an artist. When Rihanna debuted her clothing line for River Island during London Fashion Week, she helped generate buzz and boost awareness in the United States around the UK-based clothing brand. When Panic at the Disco partnered with Honda Civic for the Honda Civic Tour in 2008, the group created an original, exclusive song for Honda’s Civic commercial. The band reached a much broader audience, which resulted in higher CD and ticket sales, and Honda was on the cutting edge with a new kind of branded content. Apple’s commercial for the launch of the MacBook Air featured a soundtrack from a little-known artist, Yael Naim. “New Song,” which was recorded in Naim’s Paris apartment, jumped up the charts and subsequently led to a wildly popular US tour—and critical success. Those are just a few examples; dozens of artistically interesting campaigns have benefited from the touch of a complementary musical act. That creative matchmaking is different every time, and it brings a new, fresh twist to a brand’s perception. The reason is simple: By its nature, music is both emotional and powerful. That’s why fans gather around their favorite artists, creating strong, tightly knit subcultures. Tuning into those communities can be the difference between becoming “white noise” and making a truly engaged connection—and that’s every advertising campaign’s goal. Kick-Finishing: The Next Big Thing in Promotion – from Linkedin Influencers

Want to Take Your Project to the Next Level? Collaborate!

Although our culture tends to celebrate the idea of the “lone creative genius,” the truth is that a look behind the scenes of any success story will very often reveal the work of a stellar team; a group of passionate people who worked together to challenge and motivate one another. Steve Jobs famously promoted collaboration to increase productivity and creativity at Apple. It was one of the benchmarks of all the work that went on during my years there, and it continues to be a best practice of the corporation, and the alum that worked there.

The Who What Where When & Why of Startups

Essentially, startups form because a group of rebels are fueled to the brim by enthusiasm, innovation and passion about their ideas and products. Sadly, those assets are not enough though. Without the resources, infrastructure, and / or the knowledge to develop it on their own, it’s very likely to go supernova before it ever develops a comfortable orbit. Mentoring is a core part of running a successful startup.
