tieing-ribbon-boxEach year about this time, as we wind down the year and get ready for the next one, many start to think in terms of goals and resolutions for the New Year. What you’d like to have happen next year that didn’t happen this year. And that’s fine, but I’d like to offer a few thoughts to consider.

How many of you are taking the time to first reflect on the year that is coming to a close? To really pause and do an ‘audit’ of what you liked, of what went well, what didn’t, what lessons you learned, and what really matters to you as we move towards a whole new year – and a fresh start. You might be surprised at what you see if you look at what you wrote up objectively. Celebrate the wins, notice what’s working — and reflect on the insights and lessons you got around things that didn’t go so well.

And ask yourself some powerful questions as you start to plan for the year ahead; things like:

  • What matters most to you in your life? (Slow down and check in with your heart vs your head.)
  • What do you want to do more of in the coming year?
  • What do you want to let go of/release that’s weighing you down?
What is your body telling you? (Give voice to your body and your heart in addition to your mind.)
  • What makes you happy? What are you grateful for? (Probably two separate questions there!)
  • Are you practicing good self-care and honoring yourself in some way each day? If not, why not?
  • Who do you need to forgive? What about yourself?
  • What old beliefs and habits are holding you back or sabotaging your efforts?
  • Are you using your gifts/talents in the world and living your passion? If not, why not?
  • What does your intuition have to share? What is it guiding you to do differently next year?

Be honest with yourself as you’re going through this — and remember that the difference between dreaming and manifesting is in the asking and the doing. Don’t overlook the power of asking for help! It’s as important as taking massive action towards what you said was most important in your life. Doing both will accelerate your progress towards manifesting the goals and dreams you hold most dear.

One of my mentors, Alan Weiss, starts this planning process much earlier (I believe it’s as we approach the 4th quarter in August/September time-frame). For example, he blocks out time for his vacations for the next year as a priority then — so those are sacred dates that are not available for anything else.

Are you willing to put yourself first? Are you willing to take the time to do this self-audit, and set yourself up to have one of your best years ever across all facets of your life that are meaningful to you? As people are busy buying, wrapping and exchanging gifts, consider making this your gift to you!

I wish you a wonderful Holiday season whoever you spend it with and however you’re celebrating!!
